NX CAM Software from Siemens

SIEMENS PLM software provides new opportunities in the programming, control and operation of machine tools.

With the help of the NX CAM software developed by Siemens PLM, Siemens now boasts one of the industry‘s leading CAM solutions. The system is the fruit of extensive experience gained in the aerospace industry, where it is used for applications including airframes, gas turbine engines, hydraulic parts, landing gear and aircraft interiors. The software also proves its worth in other industries.

When defining machining strategies for toolmaking, Siemens PLM NX CAM makes it possible, for example, to generate efficient tool paths for the high-speed machining of hard tool steels. This ensures excellent surface quality at a reduced machining time. The software boasts numerous special functions designed to simplify toolmaking. These functions relate to the design and production of injection molds, progressive dies and stamping or transfer dies complete with specialist functions for elements such a electrode design used in the EDM process within tooling manufacture.

The integration of the SINUMERIK control software kernel for the 3D simulation of machine tools is testimonial to how well Siemens PLM NX CAM and SINUMERIK interact. This makes it possible to achieve a comprehensive CAM simulation that sets the global standard.

The software can also be used to implement a machine tool simulator for indexing machine tools – as a test system for NC programming outside of the machine. This involves combining the machine tool simulation generated by Siemens PLM NX CAM with the virtual NC control kernel of the SINUERMIK 840D and the HMI software in order to facilitate a complete digital representation of the machine tool, including control.
